In the Reissue Spirit

When the G1 reissues started first being released with Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and Rodimus Prime, I wasn’t interested. I severely regret passing on those three now, since it would be the last time they were available for any reasonable cost. It’s not like I didn’thave the disposeable income at the time or something, I just didn’t really feel the need for the “classics”.

Overtime I came to really like the idea of the commemorative series line. Suddenly they were desireable. Unfortunately, they had also doubles to trippled in price. Relatively anyway. The later series of reissues on the Autobot cars ran $30-$40 each. This is at least twoce what they are worth to me on average. Eventually, as expected, most of them could be found on clearance and I picked up a few for under $10 each. Japan got a few more reissues than we did of characters I was more interested in so eventually I splurged a bit on the Insecticon set and Perceptor.

The Insecticons ran something like$35 for the set ofthree toys. Quite a deal in my opinion. Perceptor, well, he’s Pperceptor. He turns into a Microscope. How much more of a nerdy Transformer can you get. Plus I really dig his look and colors.

I’ve decided to splurge a bit again. Hasbro is giving us one final push for thier likely dead Commemorative line. Soundwave. Soundwave ranks up in my top ten favorite transformers for sure. On the Decepticon Side I’d rank him number 2, behind Shockwave. i have an old beat up Soundwave toy but it has no accessories or tapes.

Which si what makes this deal even more better. Not only do we get reissue Soundwave, but he’s actually a recolor of a remolded Japanese toy of an upgraded Soundwave.

Or something like that. Basically what it boils down to is that this Soundwave is capable of holding two cassettes where the original could only hold one. He includes Ravage and Laserbeak as well. The Cassettes alone run for $30+ each on ebay. I’ve wanted some to go with my old Soundwave but that’s too cost prohibative for my tastes. Now I get the opportunity to have a nice minty fresh Soundwave with his two most well known Cassette friends. Of course now I’ll have to track down Rumble and Frenzy to go with him.
